Automating Your Blinds: A Window of Opportunity or a Waste of Time

Today we are in the era of accessibility and automation. A time when, virtually anything, is at the touch of a button – especially throughout the home.

Now, with four boys and multiple businesses to run, I was always the first to preach picking your battles and choosing the easy route. But, when it came to the automation of window treatments like blinds and curtains, I’ll admit – I was quick to turn my nose up.

I thought, how lazy can you be? Surely, we’re not at that point of not being able to, simply, close the blinds?

In all honesty, I thought the investment would be a complete waste, and just didn’t see

And then we built The PAUSE

I was introduced to the team at Luxaflex® to help me explore the various options that might be best suited to a holiday property – including PowerView.

Game changer.

Because, when it comes to holiday living, it’s all about those little moments of taking a deep breath out. So, what better way to start the day than waking up and clicking a button; that slow rise of warm morning light peeking through the blinds as they rise, calmly washing over the bedroom?

It’s almost meditative. Pure magic.

Similarly, when you’re running a busy household and trying to do a thousand things at once, that one-stop shop for your blinds and curtains – if not entire home electronics, is the ultimate sigh of relief!

And every day should feel like a holiday, right?

So, yes – I was wrong on this occasion. A simple, but effective pleasure that just never gets old, automated blinds and curtains quickly rose to a must on my list of ‘big yes’ for The Maybe Forever, along with my favourite Duette® Shades. I have used these repeatedly across client projects as well as my own, and they are such an enhancement to any space. Elegant, approachable for everyday living and, better yet, able to be automated (yes, I am THAT big a fan!) they’re a fab inclusion.

So, to wrap things up – yes to window coverings automation. They make life easy and that holiday feeling all the more prominent, and I am all about simple day to day living!

Tip:  Factor this into your renovation or build at the time of framing stage.  You have the motors/power installed at the framing stage.  Upon your wall coverings being installed, a little wire is left out.  Then once the build is ready, your supplier literally comes in and connects it up.  Something you want to factor in at the beginning.
