How to Feature Your Light Switches (Yes, Really!)

When you think about standout design elements, light switches probably don’t come to mind. But at The Maybe Forever, we saw them as a unique opportunity to weave in an extra layer of charm. In designing our Bahamas-inspired, “new-but-timeless” home, we wanted classic touches that felt both intentional and storied. That’s where Tradco’s traditional light switches fit in beautifully.

Why Go Traditional with Light Switches?

Our vision for The Maybe Forever was to create a space that felt like it had been around for ages—equal parts elegance and history. These traditional switches brought that charm, adding an old-school touch that seamlessly complements our style. They’re small details, but they give an understated nod to classic design that really helps ground the space.

Tips for Featuring Your Light Switches

1. Go Vertical for Impact
You might be used to seeing light switches installed horizontally, but we opted for vertical alignment, creating a subtle visual lift. In groupings of three or four or even standing alone, vertical switches add unexpected detail and feel just a bit more refined.

2. Pick a Finish That Complements Your Theme
To keep things cohesive, we chose an Antique Brass finish for our switches, tying them in with other accents throughout the home.

When you’re selecting finishes, think about the little touches in your space—coordinating these finishes can make the switches feel like a well-thought-out part of the design, rather than an afterthought.

3. Match the Style to Your Home’s Aesthetic
These traditional switches are stunning but might not fit every style. In more contemporary spaces, they could feel out of place. If your design leans toward timeless or vintage-inspired, these can become a beautiful design “accent” that adds just the right touch of character.

4. Know the Installation Costs
Love the look but working within a budget? Keep in mind that traditional switches may require a bit more installation time and care. They’re a bit more intricate, which can mean a longer install and a higher cost if you’re using them throughout the house. Planning for this upfront can help avoid surprises.

The Bottom Line

Traditional light switches might seem like a small detail, but they add a world of character to the right space. If your home style calls for a touch of old-world charm, consider them as more than just functional pieces—they’re an opportunity to add a unique and unexpected layer of personality to your home.
