Not quite literally (yet), but an interactive, digital home that explains everything. We’re breaking down the barriers between you and your tradies!
Our interactive house is an absolute game-changer.
Building & design of a property can be overwhelming, so, we've built you a house!
Ready to take a look around? Click on any area of the house below to discover all the ins and outs of each room. We interpret tradie talk, spill the beans on who our suppliers are, and give you all the details you need.
Why? Because we want you to learn and be inspired while having the clarity and confidence for your own build and design journey.
The interactive house is based on our Maybe Forever project. Plus, we’re adding additional spaces because we know, no two projects are ever alike.
Are you ready to dive in? Let’s get clicking!
A hip roof/hipped roof, is a type of roof where all sides slope downwards to the walls.
In layman’s terms, they are shaped like a pyramid on top of a house (there are definitely no technical terms here). I like that, more often than not, you will be able to create drama with the ceiling internally with a pitched roof – check out the master bedroom in The Maybe Forever to see what I mean!
Architect/building designer.
A fitting covering the roof hip to provide an effective watertight barrier, as well as an aesthetic finish to the cut ends of sheets or tiles at hip lines.
The finishing capping that covers the cuts to the tiles on a hip roof is like the border for the tiles (well, that makes sense to me)!

Designed to keep out rain, and are traditionally made from locally available materials such as terracotta or slate. Modern materials such as concrete are used more common today.
A material for the roof that is not as popular these days. For the right style house, roof tiles can truly become the feature – just look at our house, The Maybe Forever, if you need proof!

A gutter is a pipe or trough along the edge of a roof that carries rainwater away from a building.
The material that runs horizontally under the roof materials. My fav is the half-round profile.
Ace Gutters

The edges of the roof which overhang the face of a wall and normally project beyond the side of a building.
The underside of the roof that overhangs the building, or in simpler terms, you could call it the ceiling material for the outdoors. You can generally choose between a plain material or lining boards – I love lining boards on coastal homes!

A rafter is a structural component that is used as part of roof construction. When a rafter is exposed, the rafter tails are the exterior portion of a building’s wood structural truss that projects beyond the perimeter wall of the structure.
When you see the end of the timbers exposed over the eaves, I like to use them in coastal homes as they add more character. Just make sure if you want to use exposed eaves that you are not in a bush zone area as they are not always permitted.

A beam is a form of structure used in construction and engineering to create a safe and efficient load route that properly distributes weight across a building’s base.
Pretty stock standard explanation for this one, the horizontal material (usually timber or steel) that supports the weight of the house and/or an opening.

A post is a primary vertical or leaning support in a structure.
I am sure we all know what this is! My advice is to pay attention to the width of the post to ensure it complements the proportion of your facade.

The outside layer of a building, the material used to cover a structure’s exterior.
My favourite is weatherboard, which is when horizontal boards are overlapped to cover a home’s exterior. Weatherboard is a timeless cladding that works so well on a farmhouse, cottage, coastal, modern and pretty much in every style!

The finish materials of a building that are applied around openings such as windows and doors.
When a material such as timber is installed to hide the gaps between, say, a window or a door frame and the wall. You could also call the trims around the doors and windows architraves, but hey I am trying to group some here for you to cut down on your definitions.

A hinged or revolving barrier at the entrance to a building.
I’m pretty sure we all understand what a door is: a structure people use to open and close. You can keep your doors pretty simple or make a statement with them. I know timber doors require more maintenance, but they can really lift a facade!

A large door in a garage that opens either manually or by an electric motor.
Almost all new builds and renovations use a garage door that is controlled at a press of a button. You can choose to have your garage door blend or feature, like we have, with the timber cladding.
