WHY WE SOLD SOUL OF GERRINGONG
Spilling the beans on why we sold our first holiday property, SOUL of Gerringong.
There were times where we were going to hold on to the property as a place to bring our grandkids to one day, and there were other days where we thought about transforming it into our forever home.
Right from the beginning, when Ben and I set out to create SOUL of Gerringong, a boutique holiday home on the South Coast of NSW, we knew it was something we would eventually sell. We are creators rather than keepers – it’s what we do. But, we had no idea how much of an impact the SOUL of Gerringong would have on our lives.
HOUSES ARE LIKE BABIES
We fell in love with the property and the business in a big way. There were times where we were going to hold on to the property as a place to bring our grandkids to one day, and there were other days where we thought about transforming it into our forever home. Deep down, though, we knew that we were only minding the house and that when the time was right, we would hand her over (yes, I refer to homes like people) to the right owners.
EVEN THE BEST PLANS DON’T GO TO PLAN
Putting the property on the market just before Covid-19 hit would seem like bad luck, but in retrospect, it was perfect timing. We put the sale of the property on hold, and as a family, we moved into the Farmhouse (before this we had only ever spent two to three nights in the home). I turned The Barn into my office, and the boys had their own space in The Cabana. It felt so special to have this place to ourselves.
As we all started to come out of isolation, it was time for us to pack up from our home in SOUL. As we were doing this, a handful of interested parties who had been waiting patiently for an inspection now had the opportunity. I always said if I could have it my way, I wanted to sell SOUL quietly, and that is what happened—no need for all the stress that comes with open homes and auctions.
ONLY THE BEST FOR SOUL
It has always been my wish that the business would continue, and that is exactly what the new owners intend to do. When the new owners purchased the property, and ultimately the business, it was like our dreams from the beginning had come true. I feel so incredibly grateful to be handing over SOUL of Gerringong in late 2020 with a full calendar of bookings. I wish nothing but the best for the new owners, and for guests to keep coming down to SOUL, our baby, that we loving renovated and nurtured and is now ready for the next part of its journey.
